    car wont start!

After the car has been up on jackstands for a while the car isn't starting. The motor isn't turning at all so its something electrical.

The battary is brand new and all other electical things work, such as the windows, so i doubt it is that. It's eaither the alternator or the starter, I think.

When I turn the key, all that happens is one click, coming from the engine bay and then nothing. Any suggestions on what the problem might be?

    thanks
    Jon

How long has it been sitting? It may be the battery - may have enough charge to run some accessories, but not start the car.

Its been sitting forever, but hasnt been started since about mid august when i started the rear suspension though.

when i tried turning it on, was at the end of august.. uflnuceng came over to deliever some CAB's and I went to turn her on so he could hear the magnaflow...he just got to hear a nice click sound.

After that I disconnected the battery till i was done with the suspenion swap
put the battary back in the other day and same thing happend

again, the battary is band new!!

Check the battery voltage. 12.6 V is fully charged.

will do, could it be anything other than the battery?
If it is the battery, why? Its brand new.

If a battery is left uncharged it will quickly lose its ability to hold a charge.

You didn't possibly remove the grounding strap from the engine and not put it back did you? That will make the car act like that.

The grounding strip dosn't connect to a bolt around the top of the strut tower does it? hmm

That was an impressive sounding click... The M6 will be running by thursday... if you still don't have it figured out then I'll swing by. I'll bring some spare fuses (I would check those) and bring a spare battery I have lying around (I'll charge it first... I got all kinds of stuff for that). Check all the ground straps (the one in the back and the one attached to the passenger side strut tower).

Voltmeters can be had for $10-15 at Sears and are a very good tool for tracking down electric problems, as well as installing stereos.

So once you have the suspension on, and the engine starts... we should be able to take it for a ride? I gotta admit... that is going to be a pretty titty looking E30.

Dude the suspension is done, check the member ride section!!!

Yeah... I know on the passenger side strut tower there is an extra bolt sticking up... On other cars I've seen a wire attached to it, but there is NOT one on my car. I do vaguely remember seing a dangling wire in the engine bay.

That would be sweet if you could come over to figure out the problem and then do a little maintenance (I'd have to make an order for parts!)..Possibly install the euro bumpers

Car is drivable but not legal with the cracked windshield, no bumpers turn singles, and no inspection. We could still take it out and test out the new suspension.

Homecoming is on Saturday so I’m not sure if this weekend would be good. Could fit something in Sunday and we have off on Monday for Columbus Day.

Tighten all the nuts on your starter. I had the same problem with my car this summer, except mine started sometimes and sometimes it didn't. It was a loose nut on the starter. If not, use a Bently or Haynes manual to troubleshoot the starter.

Let's drive fast and have fun.

Ok everything eletrical works fine. Headlights, horn, windows, ect. So I doubt it is the battery. I am however heading to the store for some bolts to install the euro bumpers, so I'll pick up that mulimeter thing anyways.

My Haynes manual talkes about the starter and the soilnoids and what to check, yet they forget to mention were the hell its located. Were should I be looking for the starter?

I've been working on the other things, once i know where it is I'll jack the car up and inspect it.
