how to Remove Horn Ring on a Sprt Steering Wheel

I have the centre horn ring on a sport steering wheel and I cant find anything that tells me the trick to remove it. Typically you push and turn but thats not getting me where.

The reason Im doing this is that my right turn signal makes a buzzing sound in the steering column then blows a fuse after 10 seconds or so. Im thinking its a short but of anyone has any ideas on this one too, Id appreciate it.

    PS Its an 89 Cabrio

An 89 might be different, if it has an air bag, but I think you can replace the turn signal switch after the bottom column cover has been removed w/o messing with the steering wheel.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I tried that but besides the 2 screws underneath the lower cover there are 2 more on top that you cant access with the steering wheel in place. I actually just came from PullApart where I tried to salvage a turn signal switch, but couldn't quite get it unscrewed with the steering wheel in place so either way the wheel has to come off.

I did, however, grab a relay which is probably what's buzzing since it also sits in the column. I'm thinking I blew one side of the relay while mucking about with the rear bulb carrier....so Im back to how to get that darn horn button off so I can pop the steering wheel...and no air bag.

lol...what is it about "theres a big horn button in the centre of my steering wheel that has to come off (without breaking it) before I can remove the steering wheel" that I'm not explaining.

The spring seems to be holding it down so I was just making sure nothing would get damaged. Always best to check before applying force.

So I removed the turn signal switch after reading xx threads about issues with a buzzing relay. The consensus was to replace the switch.

The fact is, this is a purely mechanic switch and either it works or doesn't. I cleaned the contacts (just like distributor points for those of you who predate electronic ignitions) and ran a continuity test on it and its fine.

I cleaned the contacts with a file I made by using contact cement to glue some 400 grit to an old credit card then cutting it in 1\8 wide strips. Worked like a charm.

Its a bad ground somewhere. I'll do under the steering column "while Im in there" then under the back seat which is where the whole a@@ end of the car seems to be grounded. Dielectric grease on the shopping list.
