Guesstimate on machine work or buy used shortblock?

How much would machine work run on an 85 M20B27 engine that the oil pan cracked while driving and the engine seized up? Since used short blocks start around $100 would it be worth it to buy one of those from Euro depot or would those most likely need work too. Will I have to find a machine shop for BMW's or can I go just to about any reputable machine shop and they do the work? I'd be looking for a shop in the Dallas Texas area.

Given that you could probably get an entire ETA engine for less than $400, I wouldn't risk having them work with that block. Get another.

why not pick up a used M20B25 for $500 and swap that in? I don't see the point in rebuilding an ETA engine.
