If the 1% of the board members who actually DE think the same as you, they can do it the Bentley way. Or do what AdamF88is did and completely bypass the hoses and gasket by welding the hoses in the block closed.

But in an emergency, this will work quickly, cheaply, and easily. With few tools. (Only the kit and a flathead if desperate)

If it bursts, which I highly doubt, there's nothing to hit at Putnam anyway (besides a certain pile of dirt at T10 someone knows personally about). But at least then you'll win Langsten.

I don't see any argument against it for the other 99% of the population who won't be going high-stress DEs. And I think it's perfectly fine to get me home to Indy so I can drive my eta back up here, which was this fix's purpose because I didn't think I have any need to let the problem continue any longer.

yeah, people always get upset when someone else says what needs to be said.

whatever Langer, i think it is fine. I'll check with what Will's boss thinks. If he is not down, I'll do it this winter. No sweat. I'll have time for it then. I don't have it now. And I don't see anyone complaining about it's integrity for street driving..... fine?

But others have agreed it is a good quick easy fix. If not permenant, it surely gets the job done for a bit.

I wish I would have thought of this when my TB gasket went out, I had to keep a gallon of water in the trunk and fill it every 30min. Nice job

I've seen people just put screws in those two hoses to block the coolant flow. I like this idea better.

I know quite a few people with some damn fast F-bodies running that whole flush kit, with the spout thingy and whatever. Never have they had a problem. And thats on a big v8, with a ton more power than us, and they probably run a bit warmer. No leaks from any of them.

I think that would be fine. If you wanted to put some thread lock or something that would work I suppose. Look at all the other components in our cooling systems that are just as "weak" as that bypass. I think if you were worried about pressures in the system blowing it off, think of all the hoses and whatnot that run from the radiator to the coolant tank and other things.

I'll agree with some that this is a "half-ass" fix. My gasket leaks a tad now, but not enough to worry about, and if i wasnt going to be going home this winter where its cold, i would probbaly have done the same thing.

                      Thats my $.02.

Lets see... I just disconnected those pipes from the throttle body all together... connected a some pipe from the holes into the block and back... but then we don't need to have our TB heated over here... doesn't really get that cold

While I agree, I would suggest being more interjective to the conversation rather than just stomping your foot and grunting "that won't work" try being a little more insightful so those not as informed understand the reasoning behind you commentary.

Dont blame me because I speak truth's and dont tell people what they WANT to hear.... telling people what they NEED to hear is what should happen.
Your truth is only half right. You have still yet to admit that this fix would work temporarily and possibly permenantly though it might affect the performance of the car in cold climates.

You should know as well as I do that even the biggest fucktards can rack up 3000+ posts on any online forum and still not amount to a pile of fuck. Not saying you are like the person I just described, I'm just saying that my online forum post count is the last thing I would use to back up my level of intelligence and expertese.

Maybe so.. just go a little easier on peoples when your in the mood to bust some balls. You'll catch alot more flys with honey instead of vinegar.

Weld the thermostat housing, unscrew the fitting and put a drain plug in the block.

Incedentally, if you change the gasket you should change the little cover itself too. If you buy a new cover it has an updated design with a little groove on the sealing surface that helps to keep the gasket in place better rather than the original ones which are totally flat.

I got the gasket for .95 from BMA & put it in in 1/2 hour. I have an extra if anyone needs it.
