Oil shooting out of the oil filter gasket!!!??? Help

I have oil shooting out from the oil filter gasket yet the filter is tightened sufficiently! I tightened the sh** out of it and it stopped though. I am going to take my car for an oil change and am worried this will happen again. Could this be the filter I am using, do I need to simply tighten it as tight as possible or can this be a oil pressure issue?

also, could it be the surface the gasket meets on the filter housing that is warped???

The last person to change the filter probably didn't check to make sure the old gasket wasn't stuck to the housing, and then doublestacked the gaskets including the one attached to the new filter.

Just do an oil change ASAP and make sure it gets done correctly.

        :stupid:

My first car, '78 Corolla had this happen. After I had moved on to another car, my older brother needed it and he had the oil changed at a quick lube place. They left the extra gasket there.

When he was driving a few days later, the oil light came on and he heard terrible noises!!!!!! Needless to say, by the time he pulled over, it was too late.

Time for a new engine at that point.

        Get yours fixed right away.

Same thing happened to my roomates Eclipse last winter. Only we were the ones that did the oil change we didn't realize the other gasket came off because we were in such a hurry. Luckily he realized what happened before anything bad happened. The worst part was he had just dumped 5 quarts of Royal Purple @ $6.50 a quart by the time he figured it out.

no, only one gasket has been on there all three times that this has happened. Is there anything wrong with just tightening the sh** out of the filter? That seems to have stopped the prob so far... I'll just tell the shop to tighten it past hand tight or whatever....?

I have done countless oil changes on my car over the 15 years of it's life and never has it needed more than as tight as I could get it with both hands.

Something is wrong. Be careful I would hate for the engine to be dertroyed.

Does anyone know anything about an Oil Pressure release valve? Does the 84 E30 have one? I wonder if the oil pressure is just to high or what??? In the meantime, I will continue to "tighten the sh** out of it"..

Have you tried a high flow oil filter like a K&N yet?

sh**!! a high flow oil filter, of course!!!!!

                    what is that?:)

No, I haven't but it's got a good ring to it, I'm getting a good vibe from this. I'll try it this time around. What purpose does the "high flow" serve, what application? Thanks bro...

It just constructed of a material that circulates oil alot better than OEM filters like Fram or Wix.

BTW never use Fram filters on any cars.

hand tightening is good enough. Maybe you squished to gasket too much.

I've also seen this happen if the surface where the gasket meets the engine has been gouged bad enough the oil will leak around the gasket where the gouge is.
