    need help with my m10!!

    hey guys.

my car is doing its studdering problems again and i dont know where to start looking for things.

I posted this a while ago and it seemed to fix itself, but its back

    Ok so,
    symptoms:
-motor studders and bucks when im driving
-Only when in gear, when taken out of gear the motor revs freely, slow and fast(this is very odd i think, might be important in solving this)
-Seems to happen most when it is really cold out and/or wet. Although it has happened when the weather is nice, but just not as often.
-today it was happening bad, so i pulled over, shut the car off, turned it on, reved the motor and drove off fine for a while then it did it again.
-also today before the above happened,(it was very cold and damp this morning) when i was pulling up to the red light in neutral(i believe, might have been in gear, not sure cause i was really tired, it was 7:30am, very sleep) the car just started to die and the battery light came on, before it died, i shut it off and started it up and reved the motor to keep it idleing, then it was fine.

    any guesses?

judging by the last one, id say your battery, charging system, or alternator is dying. get your battery load tested (sears does it for free) and check your charging system for electrical leaks.

Throw it in the middle of a field and beat it with a bat. Like Office Space.

Just the M10 - keep the car. And you gotta play Scarface while you do it.

I had a lot of hesitation problems when accelerating. I replaced my FPR with one from an M20 and it all went away.

hmm, seems to be a common problem then huh. Anyone else have this problem.

Was your guys problem only under load like mine?

P.S. I have a nasty exhaust leak. I think the gasket it just falling apart and its coming out of there, so that gets to go on the list of things to fix too

THe battery light will come on if the car is close to stalling. I doubt this is your problem.

My M42 had trouble idleing when the exhaust gasket at the bottom of the headers failed. It if you have exhaust leaks i would check that cause i know the m42 is really tempermental to backpressure. Just an idea

the problem still continues. I gave my car to my mechanic last week because im at school and have no time to try and fix it myself. He said that my wires look like crap and my spark plugs were almost all fouled. He cleaned them out and ordered new sparkplugs, but gave the car back to me and i drove it for 2 weeks. The car was fine, also note the weather was beautiful. The first cold morning i had(frost on all the windows, hands freezing, very cold), the problems started happening again really bad. I left the car at home and went to work, came back and drove the car when it was nice out again and it was fine.

So the car is back at the mechanic and he is getting the wires in soon. Im also going to get a fuel pressure regulator from an m20 and see what that does.

                            Any more suggestions?
somethings failing in the cold/wet weather. Whats common to fail in these conditions?

here are a few things to check:

                              cap/rotor
                              Vacuum leak
bad fuel filter (have you changed it since you bought the car? You should.)
                              low fuel pressure
bad throttle position sensor or wot switch (whatever it has, never dealt with L-jet)
                              bad fuel pimp
                              ICV (if L-jet uses one)
                              AFM
                              DME

Check/replace these things in order of cost. It really couldnt be anything else
