    Fuse question

    Would putting a 35amp fuse were a 7.5 one goes affect it in any way? i put a 35 for fuse 10 wich uses a 7.5, the car has not given me any warning signs, but i was wondering in the long run will it give me issues? 90 e30

      Just buy the right fuse and you don't have to worry about anything. It's not like they cost a lot

        By putting a higher amperage fuse in, you basically make the wiring in the car the fuse. Whatever will take the least amperage will melt. In a normal case, it is the fuse. This protects the wiring from melting if something shorts out. In your case, the fuse is a much higher rating then the wiring, so if something goes wrong, your wiring is going to melt and possible cause a fire.

        In short, DO NOT use a higher amperage fuse in place of a lower amperage one.

          OK, so lets say you swap out car stereos, and the new one pops the 7.5A and has a 10A fuse on the power lead...that would be fine to swap in a 10A, but still not a 30A.

          Pay attention to the loads and fuse accordingly. Don't overstress the wire, you can't triple the amperage on the same wire.

                I heard you stuck a pair of needlenose pliers in the fuse socket and duct taped it in place...

                  Thanks I will change it back, I notice my auto shop only carries 15 and up, I have not seen a 7.5 any suggestions?
