With all the work you're doing on all of the E30s you will be able to do all of it blind folded some day.

Note to self - when doing an engine swap - man up and get a brand new or reman'ed starter - so it's easy to put in and NEVER COMES OUT AGAIN. :)

use a crow's foot wrench on the engine side, then some universals and 2-3 extensions from the tranny side. I had to remove the starter 5-6 times on my dad's 89 325i when I did the 5-speed swap as it wasn't engaging the flywheel(ended up being the whole tranny sitting cockeyed thanks to one of those dowels falling out.

I used a stubby 17 on the engine side, just sitting there, then ran about 3 ft of extension down the tunnel to the impact. buzzed it right off. If you have small hands like me you can actually grab the nut or bolt uncomfortably from the underside with your hands to hold it still when you tighten it up. Not a fun job.

did you drop the trans bracket to give yourself a little extra room? you shouldnt be fighting it that bad. if it took you 4 hours. you'd have been better off dropping he exhaust and removing the trans to reach it. it would have been faster.

It didn't actually take us 4 hours. We were also messing with the tbelt and front valance. And eating pizza.

But most of the time if you use a big 1/2" impact you can spin the bolts out in one shot without even using a wrench. You guys need some fucking air tools. And a lift.
