    Icv?

    I have had a surging idle for quite some time now. Every time I come up to a stop sign or sit in traffic, it goes from 500 to 950 rpms at a constant rate. Today when I got home from driving I popped the hood and unplugged the ICV and the idle was a bit high but didnt surge anymore. Is this a good sign that it is time for it to be replaced? I tried testing it but it is in the most inconvienent place (sandwiched between the intake mani and the firewall) and I dont know if I was getting accurate readings.

    I would like to know that is what is causing this idle problem before I go pick up a new one.

    I did recently replace: intake manifold gasket, most all vaccum lines, FPR, Fuel Pump and the TPS has the correct resistance for idle and WOT.

    try spraying the valve with some brake cleaner and see if that helps.

        I will try that again. I have sprayed it a few times in the past and it doesnt seem to do much. If that still doesnt solve the issue, is it a good possibility it is the ICV. It doesnt cost "that" much, so I might just pick one up.

          318s have a lot of vacuum leak potential too. I'd check that as well.

            While I had the ICV out of the car I tested the resistance across the terminals and got a reading of 8.2 ohms. Does that mean anything to anybody?

            Also, does the little valve inside th ICV turn freely? I stuck a small pick and put a little pressure on it and it did not budge.

              That piece inside doesnt move. Is it supposed be like that.

                ummm i beleive its supposed to move?..everytime ive cleaned mine ive been able to move it freely?

                  Update for future reference:

                  After spraying the ICV, the idle seems to be a bit more normal. I still have a temporary drop in idle speed when the car comes to a stop, but it immediately returns to normal.
