I put the central lock control back in the foot well and put the plastic trim back up under the dash. I went for a drive and I noticed the mileage was not changing. Could it be coincidence or did I unplug something while messing with the wires? Is there a fuse for this? Any thoughts on what the problem could be? The fuel gauge is also bouncing intermittently. Thanks.

Coincidence if and only if the Speedo still works."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

Yeah, the speedo works fine. I see quite a few people have a hard time with these gears then going bad shortly after they "fix" them. What is the proper fix so that I am not doing this again in 2 months? Thanks guys.
On EDIT: It seems like many people have had luck with garagistic gears. But, can it be anything electrical? I don't want to rip the cluster out if this is just a fuse or something simple. Is the fact that the speedo works mean that it is the gears or is there something else I need to rule out? Thanks.Last edited by clydesdale; 06-30-2012, 07:43 PM.

The odometer doesn't count unless the Speedo's working. Order some gears...first detemine what type of Speedo u have...vdo or motometer. Don't go by what it says on the front of the cluster."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

this JUST happened to me. I got gas and reset the trip after filling up to make sure my gauge is relatively accurate, and started driving and noticed the miles werent counting but speedo worked. I second the OdometerGears.com reccommendation, pricey but will last i'm sure. Haven't gotten them in the mail yet but took apart the cluster and there were just pieces of gear teeth everywhere. They have a great guide too
good luck

The gears are stripped. I ordered a set from garagistic. Hopefully, they are of good quality. Thanks.
On edit - Wow the odometer gears are much more expensive from that company than at garagistic. I hope I ordered a quality part. If I did, then this company should do very well on this forum. I hope they are a good value.

Put probably 4k or so on my garagistic gears, no issues. They are not made like the stock gears, plastic is much harder...youll see when you change your old gears how soft and brittle they are. They did quite a lot of testing before releasing em, and im sure if you have an issue they seem like a company that stands by there stuff.

I've swapped in 3 sets of gears from garagistic with varying amounts of miles on each car and so far zero issues. For the price i'll throw a set in my spare speedo & if anything dies I can swap the head out in under an hour.
