It's simpler than it seems. DO use seafoam even though it will in fact clog your cat. Following that, replace the cat. Here's what I went with: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o02_s00_i00 plus about 50 bucks to get the old one cut off and the new one welded in at a muffler shop.

my car failed for a few reasons, so I bit the bullet and had a new magnaflow cat welded on. Passed with flying colors. I posted a thread about it here somewhere. Search my name and find it.
Dont dick around with stupid tricks and potions. Just do it right the first time around

Edit: Found the pic with before and after results: My No went from the 1900 range down to 200 range

and to add. DMVca actually offers financial assistance to get your car smog approved. I believe the allowance is up to $700.

yes I know it's a handout but hell we have the highest registration fees and taxes out of the US for driving so we might as well make it worth it

Actually I tried to go that route to get my cat paid for. That program got cut due to budget. Now there is all these restrictions to qualify for it...its like impossible.

You car should pass smog no problem. All M20's (three) I've ever owned pass without effort.

Installed new Bosch 02 sensor. Install new OEM catalytic convertor. Verify no vacuum leaks and you should be able to pass.
