    Ok what's this?

Ok can anyone tell me what the BRAKE LINING light is for? I'm new to BMW's and have no clue.

It's an indicator to tell you when the brake pads are low.

There is a sensor attached to one of the pads at the front left and right rear of the car.

Yeah, don't be ghetto and take out the bulb.
If it's flashing and what not, get under your car and find where the wire is being interrupted.

It wasn't flashing but it went out the next day. I'm changing the brakes all around today. Thanks for the info.

Sensor wire is loose. Replacement wire is 9.95 from BAVAUTO.

Brake lining light= low brake pad lining= meaning the car wants you inspect your pads, to see if they need replacing. Most people just jump these "sensors", you should be inspecting your pads regardless if a light comes on or not.

yup. just a lil advanced technology on a old bmw. once the pads wear enough, the sensor will hit the rotor and ground out. thus completing the circuit and turning on the light.

The O2 light comment was in response to someone saying you had to replace the light. There is a light that sits on the dash right up next to the windshield on my 84 318i to let you know to change the O2 sensor. Once it comes on (I believe at 30k) even changing the sensor doesnt make it go out. You have to remove the bulb.
