    annoying airbox stuff

So my little K&N cone intake was looking surprising ratty and I had been thinking about going back to the factory airbox for the the heat shield so I figured I would do that today. Well on the bottom side of the cone was all this tar like black grease which was disgusting as hell and was all voer the area

Any thoughts? My first idea was power steering fluid... Couldn't tell for sure from looking at it though. Then I found this in the airflow sensor

Guessing that shit got through that damn filter. Is this something I need to worry about? I mean with the stadard airbox the intake will be nowhere near the stuff anymore, but should I be worried/take any precautions? Replace parts ect.

Any and all advice is welcomed

Looks like you have vacuum leak i had oil in my intake too until i took care of a small vacuum leak, could also be worn oil rings or oil from the crankcase vent tube

That doesn't look like the stock hose. Looks like someone just bought a pieces of straight house and made it work.

The radiator hose? No it should be because I ordered it through blunttech and was supposed to be the proper one

you either ordered the wrong hose or you put it on wrong. that hose doesn't go anywhere near the alternator.

It appears I did put it in backwards *facepalm*

Well thats fixed. Now how about that black gunk? Could that be from the power steering? Or would something else in that area cause all that gunk to build up?

Early coolant system has a clamp on the frame rail and goes VERY close to the alternator. I bought an aftermarket hose for my car and it didn't fit quite right and the blades on the alternator ripped it, and that was with the hose in the clamp on the frame rail :( Always use OEM for that one now.

AFMs aren't sensitive to oiled filters, MAFs are - and only if you use way too much oil on them.

K&N flow less than a Mann filter FYI.

I dynoed the panel filters back to back - I saw a slight WHP increase with the K&N. But, I see a pretty substantial pressure drop through the airbox.

Yup, and this test is with a brand new filter. They get worse as they get dirty.
