    Operating temp in fahrenheght

I looked on google but couldn't find the answer.

My cars temp gauge has never worked so I use an after market temp gauge. I just want to know when the e30 is in the middle of the temp gauge what temperature is it?

i believe its Celsius and for m20s its around 210 degrees or 410 degrees Fahrenheit , but for m42s i think its a little higher

Both 210 celcius and 410 fahtenheight are way too high. I think you mixed something up.

I think 210 fahrenheight is the middle

Yeah I'm not completely sure it probably is 210 Fahrenheit

^ check your fan clutch, coolant level, etc. water pump is how old? thermostat newer?

90c is about the middle. that's not quite 200f. the 1/4 mark is about 70c.

That isn't normal and it sounds like a bad fan clutch, a partially clogged radiator, or a thermostat that isn't fully opening.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Mine's an 80C, and sits just under the halfway mark when moving (15+mph) regardless of outside temp or activity (commuting, track day). it might hit half on a hot (90F+) day while waiting in line at a toll booth. My aux fan does not run.

                      Doesn't worry me at all.

my thermostat is currently stuck open. it never goes above the 1/4 mark, and now that it's getting cooler it's between the blue and 1/4 mark on the highway. not good!

I don't know what temperature that is but it may not be that bad. Depending on the viscosity of your oil it could just be on the lower end of the "optimal" operating temperature.

In my last track car (wasn't an e30) I would get up to 230+ at times. It's not optimal but with a different viscosity, the oil can still be within normal operating range.

At what temperature due e30's sustain gasket damage/head warping?

230F or above is in dangerous territory and can result in warping of the head and subsequent head gasket failure.

it's too cold, it barely reaches 70c, and that's only if I sit for a while. optimally you'd like it to run at 80c at least. engines are more efficient when they're hot.

BMW people like to put in 70c t-stats as a band-aid for overheating. if your car is going to overheat, it's not because of the t-stat..
