Rims cost about $100-125 to fix.
Figure $100 to fix your strut thing
$300 to fix your hood and fender
      $200-300 to fix A/C
$100-500 for the windows, that is hard to say
      No idea on the locks.

Whatever is wrong with a window, you can fix in an apartment parking lot. You sit in the car while doing the work. If you described said problems in more detail, we could help you more.

Everything else shouldn't cost $2K to diagnose/fix - as long as your front end suspension woes are something simple, and easy to spot on a lift.

im wondering if i can fix the car and keep it instead of selling it which would be hard right now in considering the situation

Part it out or sell it as a parts car. You will never sell it for $2,500 but you could cut your losses and sell it for much less and stop pouring money into it.

Just for an example, I bought my car in FL and it was $3,000 and it had been garage kept all its life, was basically mint with 90k miles and a ton of new parts all serviced at the dealer.

I'm going to take back what I said about fixing everything and keeping it...

Get rid of it. You can't really part it, unless you find another FL E30 guy who doesn't mind a junker on his property for a couple months. Sell whatever mods you can off of it, and sell it as is whole. You're going to take a hit, but there's no way around that.

Add whatever you make from this E30, then take the $2-3K you have set aside to buy a *nice* car. Whether it be: an E30, or any other more practical college kid daily driver. Whatever it is you're looking for, $3.5-5K could buy you something nice and RELIABLE.

i could afford 3k for a car cause im getting an extra loan for school that leaves me with with money for living expenses and transportation i wont have to start paying back until 6 months after i graduatei could do this 3 grand for a car, 12 months rent, and a some more for other living expenses i could sell my car for much cheaper then im asking for it now OR i could put 2-3grand into my car and keep it

It all depends on what you buy with that 3 grand. An E30 is paid of and somewhat reliable, but there would be better choices for a daily driver for a broke college student in my opinion.

Part out the car. Its really not worth dealing with the problems. I picked up my 318is, and you saw how nice it was once I replaced the window, for only 4200. 77k miles, mint paint, garaged all its life. You might as well make 1500 parting the car, then spend 3500 on a nice new e30. Rather than spend over 2k to fix a 1000 dollar car now.

I think he could make more than 1.5k parting it out, I made almost 3 grand on my 91 325i parts car and the engine was blown and the body and interior was shite.

I think you should just get the stuff fixed that affects the driveability of the car such as the strut problem, and the hood latch problem. I would suppose you could get those fixed for under $1000, but what do I know...

I would really consider how conveniences like A/C and all around working windows and locks help you decide whether or not to ditch your car for another one. And, if you may be able to fix the windows and locks yourself, well, then things may start to look up. And maybe you'll just have to roll on basket weaves or even bottle caps for awhile... If you have/kept your originals, then what's the big deal? Use 'em.

I can understand you might be taking a big chance on discovering further damage to the suspension from your accident, but i certainly think it will be worth getting it fixed, even if it takes a little bit of patience. At least talk to shops about your predicament first, and i'm sure they will be reasonable with prices, especially if you are knowledgeable of the problem.

As a busy college student (I am one too), I imagine parting out a car may end up as a long term project, not to mention waste of a fixeable e30. If you want to get rid of it, sell the whole car so that it can be fixed by somebody else.

rent out a storage unit for a couple months. tear it apart in there and then you have room and that shouldn't be too expensive.
