    Antifreeze

Is the BMW antifreeze any better for my car than something like Prestone? What is the best? I want to do right by my car, but I don't want to waste money.

I use Preston GL-05 or something like that. Phosphate free is the key iirc.

I only use BMW's formula in my cars. Coolant is one of those heated (no pun intended) discussions that have a lot of different opinions, but BMW coolant has no phosphates which can make a big mess of a cooling system.

Like Raxe said it is a heated topic. I personally use the BMW coolant because why not, for a few more bucks I just have added piece of mind, whether it really makes a difference or not.

My car had green coolant the first time I drained the system and there was crap builtup all throughout. Switched to BMW and haven't had an issue since and have clean water passages.

I use the BMW stuff. I mean really, you only need to buy it every 2-3 years, and it doesn't cost that much extra. BMW also uses a lot of plastic shit in their cooling systems, and I've seen what cheap coolant can do to the insides of an iron block/aluminum head engine.

I paid $16 a gal for the blue stuff from BMW. After 50:50 mixing, it comes out to $8 a gal...barely more expensive than other pre-mixed antifreeze.
