    E30 key duplication

I just want to confirm a normal hardware store can copy e30 keys provided I have blanks. Correct?

they can copy them on one of their keys too. I had 2 spare keys made up for like 5 bucks.

I went to a locksmith place, not a hardware store, although I'm sure just about anywhere with a key cutting machine can do them.

The dealership (or at least mine) can cut a key for you for about 10-15$ too. Just FYI

If you have a pristine, not worn, key a faithful copy can be made. Though I haven't seen any made in steel like the OE keys. The better choice, and not much more expensive is to get a key from a dealer.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Depends what dealer you are working with. My local dealer said that the key blank would be about $25

I just ordered a key by VIN from the dealer as I only had a copy. I am amazed the key I had worked, it is so different that I thought they made a mistake.
Once I tried it I was amazed at how much better/smoother it was. The cost was $70 for two factory keys and it took two days to get them.

If that is the case, I am surprised that your spare works at all.

You'd be surprised at how many old e30 keys work in other e30s. The key that came with your car might not even be the right one.

I had one e30, every local e30 key locked, unlocked and turned her on.

Recently had to buy a new key at the dealership, after tax it came to $54. That was with a 10% discount too. :|
