I just want to confirm a normal hardware store can copy e30 keys provided I have blanks. Correct?

I went to a locksmith place, not a hardware store, although I'm sure just about anywhere with a key cutting machine can do them.Comment

If you have a pristine, not worn, key a faithful copy can be made. Though I haven't seen any made in steel like the OE keys. The better choice, and not much more expensive is to get a key from a dealer. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I just ordered a key by VIN from the dealer as I only had a copy. I am amazed the key I had worked, it is so different that I thought they made a mistake.
Once I tried it I was amazed at how much better/smoother it was. The cost was $70 for two factory keys and it took two days to get them.
