Door lock

I have a 1991 318i vert, and the drivers side door will lock and unlock with the pull thing inside, but will only unlock from the outside. Also if I lock it from the inside first it wont close. Any ides on what might be wrong?

Why would you wanna lock it from the inside? Nobody is gonna break in when you are in the car

What I meant is that I can't even lock it from the inside then close it when I park it, so basically there is no way to lock it.

You are not supposed to be able to lock the drivers door from outside without the key so you cant lock yourself out. If you close it and a passenger pushes the button down, it will lock

That makes sense, but it wont even lock with the key.

Then fix your lock or buy a new lock set.
