Well, I finally replaced my rocker arm and had new valve guides installed.
I never did find all the broken pieces of the rocker arm, however. I drained all my oil and found nothing. Then, I remove my oil level sensor and stuck my finger up in there to feel around and sure enough I grabbed a little piece of broken rocker arm. ...I'm sure there is more in there.
My question is can I leave those broken pieces in there? My machinist said it shouldn't be a problem because those pieces drop like rocks to the bottom on the oil pan...
As you all know, replacing an oil pan on an iX takes some time cuz the front diff has to come off and subframe lowered...
Ah shit - better safe than sorry I guess. I never knew a broken rocker arm could cause so much grief.Comment

Depends on how big the piece is. Have you cut your oil filter open and checked for pieces?

it's probably fine. any tiny peices will get caught in the filter. big chunks will just sit in the pan. also the ix pan has that trap door, it could very well get trapped far away from your pickup tube.
maybe as a "while I'm in there" but if you're not having a problem I don't think it's worth pulling the pan for.Comment

I'm not sure... I'd hate to have some catastrophic failure somehow. What's the worst case scenario? I'm really just worried that some piece will mess up the crank somehow...it's probably fine. any tiny peices will get caught in the filter. big chunks will just sit in the pan. also the ix pan has that trap door, it could very well get trapped far away from your pickup tube.

Well - I tried. It won't start. It won't even fire at all....
I'm at a complete loss here. I just had the head rebuilt for the second time and installed everything. I even put in new plugs, FPR, and relays. Nada, nothing, zip. Fuckin shit man.
I've tested and replaced everything but the fusible link. Should I just use a box cutter to open the shrink wrap along the side of the link? I've never seen one of these before and don't know what to look for... I guess just a burnt fuse type thing??
I have fuel pressure, spark, and compression. And it doesn't even fire whatsoever. What gives?Last edited by EyExR; 12-28-2012, 07:26 AM.Comment

I checked these. And even with intake leaks the car should at least fire and stumble...
Would I get spark with a bad fusible link?Comment

Fusible link is good and I double checked the c191 - it's clean.
I also swapped out my ECU.
For those of you catching up, here's my story:
I had my engine fully rebuilt 1,500 miles ago
Suddenly my car bogs down big time on the highway and I literally come to a rolling stop in my driveway.
I found I had a bad fuel relay and suspected that that was the problem and was then flooded from all my start attempts...
When removing my valve cover to have a look around I found a broken rocker arm. I was nailing 7,000 rpm when this happened.
I removed the head and brought it to a machine shop who replaced the rocker and also put in new valve guides (apparently the first shop that rebuilt my engine never did this. jerks.)
Now I've got a rebuilt head on with new spark plugs and I fully charged my battery
The car cranks all day but will just not start
I have spark, I have fuel pressure.
No start.Comment

yes.
I wonder if I broke another rocker arm or something? Maybe I'm gaping these things too tight?
I hate to take my valve cover off as I just used black rtv instead of a gasket.....Last edited by EyExR; 12-28-2012, 03:16 PM.Comment
