Please excuse my ignorance.. I did some Google reading on crank scrapers and I get the general idea but I still don't completely understand if there any real performance gains from having one and if they take the place of the gasket of an M20 oil pan or would you use both the gasket and the scraper.

I'm not sure an M20 will gain much power but since our engines are titled to one side you could definetly run into oil starvation on tight left hand turns.
