    Crank Scraper?

Please excuse my ignorance.. I did some Google reading on crank scrapers and I get the general idea but I still don't completely understand if there any real performance gains from having one and if they take the place of the gasket of an M20 oil pan or would you use both the gasket and the scraper.

    you seen this thread?

I think you still need a gasket for it to seal properly. I'd probably use paper/sillicone.

So.. from what I've read so far it's supposed to help prevent oil starvation in tight turns on the track?

Would there be any use for it in a daily driver E30?

the trap doors keep the oil from going up the side of the block, the crank scraper itself keeps oil off the crank weights which saps HP. I'm not sure an M20 will gain much power but since our engines are titled to one side you could definetly run into oil starvation on tight left hand turns.

ive also read that they can greatly reduce high temps during workload.

Does anyone on the forums actually have one of these on their car?

I'd say skip it for a street car. If you have a car that you track ALOT, or a race car- then it's probably a good idea- they are cheap enough.

I don't know about on M20's, but the 4 cylinder Ford engines that are in everything gain upwards of 14 HP just by putting one in. For the price, it would be worth it in a street car or a race car. Added HP is added HP, no matter how little it is.

14HP!? At the crank or at the wheels?

I agree........I track my car and its common knowledge we get oil starvation. There are $1000.00 baffled oil pans, custom baffles for $100.00 that need to be welded in, and crank scrapers.....they could all help as would an accusump BUT......I would not think a street car needs a scraper and dont expect too much HP.
I love sitting down and just driving!
