    Remove power steering???

Just thought about running sans power steering with the m30 for a little more power and better steering feel. Anybody remove their power steering? My only concerns are that the steering isn't too bad, since I still want to be able to use it comfortably.

    Whatda y'all think?

Taking the belt off or whatever you plan to do is a ghetto solution. You won't notice the increase in power either.

You'll build some nice arms from trying to turn in parking lots though. Have you ever tried turning your steering wheel with the car off?

what i did is run 2 lines from the PS fluid tank to the rack, so there is still fluid circulationg through it. Although i dont think it would be totally nessary because it only provides lubrication for the seals, the gear itself just has some grease on it. Somehow my z3 rack i just put in is just as easy if not easier to turn then the stock e30 rack. I dont know how its possible but i checked and rechecked that it was a z3 rack

Maybe you should lower your car off of the jack stands and onto the ground.

I am just thinking, do I really want to buy a new ps pump, and hook it up, since usually power steering is the largest power loss from all the accessories. As it is now, I am going to be running the alternator, waterpump, and probably nothing else. I like the steering feel anyhow of my e30, but it also is barely assisted, so I don't think I am gonna miss power steering that much.
Talking to my uncle, who ordered his 65 GTO w/out power steering has said that back then you lost around 20-30hp running power steering, so thats why he went w/out it. I am sure that BMW is much more efficient than that, but I am trying to get some nice power out of the m30, and that definately seems like a way. I am also running sans cat., since with an m30 the power difference is quite a bit.

I still think removing cats, removing a/c, removing p/s are mostly placebo mods.

i think removing the cats is more of sticking it to the greens ;)

It's actually decent weight savings if you have new pipes welded in instead of just hollowing them out though.
