    Gas gauge has a cold

Can anyone think of why my fuel gauge only works when it's cold outside? Sometimes a smal tap on the dash and it jumps right up but if its 50* or colder it's works by itself. If its hot there's no way it's doing anything. Thanks for any help!

Sounds like a standard e30 cluster to me!

The first thing that comes to mind is a bad connection where the gauge mounts to the PCB in the cluster. After that, cracked solder joints in the cluster.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Thanks for the input!

Did you happen to paint the needles?

Tighten the brass nut on the back side of the cluster behind the gauge. Do the same for the temp gauge.

there's also a resistor that is part of the gas gauge circuit where the solder joints can crack. if tightening the nut on the back doesn't work, it would be worth opening it up and possibly reflowing some of those solder joints.
