Just finished freshening up my starter motor but couldnt get the solenoid apart to refurb it so I replaced it. Still would like to figure out how to get it open. This version on my m3 has no screws, just a crimp. I bent it out but the cap still won't budge. Just curious if anyone has gotten it open.

I was able to get mine open but it could, and most likely is, a different version than your M3.

I think the crimp goes all the way around. I may have to pry the rim out all the way around...it won't be pretty. Found new aftermarket replacements for $30. May not be worth messing with but I will anyway.

Yup mine was much easier to take apart. There is not much in there, just a solenoid coil and bolt. I opted to just replace.Owner - Bavarian Restoration
