    Dash Indicators

    The car has been with me for over a year now. I've managed to slowly fix and restore her in good running condition but there's still a good amount of work to be done. Some things are also creeping up. I took a pic of the dash and wanted to get your comments based on what you see. Fire away...

    brake lining light means your brake wear sensor is worn indicating that you need new brake pads. Or. you have a faulty brake wear sensor. you have one at the front and one at rear.

    Parking brake light: indicates you left the hand brake on. Or, the wire on the hand brake under the accordion cover has broken off. this will trip the light.

    The only time these and other lights may come on simultaneously is when the SI board batteries no longer charge causing the lights and tach etc to work intermittently. it doesn't seem to be the case with what you're showing.

        Batteries plus has them and there's a member on here (gregs///m iirc) who replaces them for a small fee.

          For brake lining, I just replaced the ones in front as I was told by the mechanic that the back side was ok. Well, I think the back side is not knowing that the front one is new now. :(

          Cluster lights are dim for my liking and was thinking whether I can replace those bulbs to make them bright. I'm unsure of the cluster batteries condition though, but I notice some surge on the tach everytime I switch the ignition off. After a second, the tach just ticks up (to 300 rpm range) and as if there was a power surge before resting at the bottom.

          Temp has passed half mark.

          Too much driving in traffic in very hot weather. Though tonight I sort revved the engine at high RPMs as I was just sitting in traffic for over an hour. After doing that, temp went back to 1/2. Weird. Something must have been stuck in the cooling system.

          What about idle? How's yours?

              I would not recommend using a higher wattage bulb as you risk over heating circuit board or melting something. I've seen this happen.

              As for the temp? that's normal. I have a car that drives and stays in the 1/2 to slightly higher range but never goes further. As long as it doesn't sit in the 3/4 mark you should be fine. stop go traffic can make the needle wander. when you rev'd it the clutch fan engaged bringing the temp down.

                Temp gauge can be a ton of things. Mine did the same thing and it ended up that the brass nut behind the gauge was loose. After I tightened it up I had no more issues.

                  Can you solder? Brake lining lamp being illuminated when no fault can be found in the braking system is frequently caused by a resistor on the instrument panel circuit board. Is it consistently on or does it go off and on when you go over bumps in the road? I think I've posted this before but if you can't find I'll look it up again for you.

                      Check your wear sensor connectors at the two weatherproof boots at the drivers side front and passenger side rear.

                      Any added resistance by corroded, oxidized connectors or poor connection will cause the light to turn on. Start there.
