The fuses would be the first thing to check.

Fuse 10, 12, 21, all 7.5A. Just change them all.

update- replaced the fuses with 10 amp. started the car like usual with everything working. as i start moving fuse blows and everything goes back the way it was.

any suggestion on where i should start my search for a short?

Using the wiring diagrams from http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm, start trouble shooting the circuit that fuse feeds.

checked the wires coming from the shift hole, one was slightly stripped and shorting out. taped it up replaced the fuse and hasnt happened again
