    Front jackstand placement

Another one of my newb question threads

so i'm about to replace the front suspension and was having some trouble placing the jack stands, the type of stands that i have are these

I know that i should put them under the frame rails behind where the control arm bushing bolts to, but the top of the jackstands are not wide enough, such that the frame rail will be resting just on the upturned edges of the jack stand.

Would this be safe or should i consider other locations for the jack stands?

    Check this out:

I would recommend the alternate front end jackstand jacking point...

if you have a grinder just flatten out the areas that bend up?

You can place a block of wood between the stands and the frame rails.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

You can put stands on the pinch weld as long as it's not rusty where it would cave in

This is what I did. you only need 5/8" thick or so to be above upturned ends. Cut plywood rectangles, and if anal like me, you can shape bottom of wood to match metal base for full support. Then use the obligatory duct tape to secure to jack stand.

My car stood on stands for 6 weeks while I replaced my suspension and the pinch didn't deform in any way. If it's not rusty it will easily hold the weight of the car.

Put em under the frame rails.

Or get those rubber jack stand covers that have a nice groove in them to allow you to set them under the pinch weld without bending it up

thanks for all the replies, i'm going to chuck them under the frame rails with a shaped piece of wood, i know that the pinch weld jack point shouldn't bend but it's pretty far back so i'm concerned with the amount of weight that would be forward of it so im not going to go that route.

I use stand /wood-- front frame rails and rear sub frame mount. add a pad to your floor jack plate so you don't tear up the undercoating. set stands,
step back and give car a stability shake. It doesn't hurt to leave the jack someplace under the car for secondary safety.

I always leave the jack about 1/4 inch below the frame rail on whatever side I'm working on. Nothing wrong with a little added safety!

My pinch weld looks like a waffleswaffleswaffleswafflesed up piece of bacon because one of the PO used it too liberally.

You know, if you use a soft wood it will pretty much shape itself once the weight of the car is on it. Just remember to heed the direction of the grain or it's quite possible to split a block on the first try.
