    Fan shroud: is it necessary?

My fan shroud is warped and interfering with the fan. I'm gonna try to fix it and put it back on eventually, but I'll be running without it for a few days.

Is this a bad idea? does the an shroud help airflow a lot or is it just mainly for cosmetics/safety?

    (M20b25 if it helps)

Yes it helps concentrate air to the rad.
You'll be fine without one permanently, but it's just more efficient with one.

I haven't had one for half a year telling myself I'll put it back on (when I find out where I put it lol).

You're going isn't going to over heat. No worries.

It's most effective during stop & go or drive through scenarios.

They are only about $20 new so it may be worth buying a new one.

Well shyte, I guess I should purchase on. I haven't had on in 4 yrs, Hell I didn't realize E30s came with one. But I do get stuck in alot of stop & go traffic in the city.

Always ran my e30's without a shroud or fan. Just made sure the condenser fan worked and it was always sufficient.

That said, I don't drive in stop and go on 100* days either.

how is it warped? is it at the bottom in the middle? if so, this is normal. there's an attachment point there. you'll see a little hole at the bottom of the shroud that matches a little hole in the radiator. just run a zip tie through there.
i had this happen to me recently and i overheated because the fan wouldn't move :(

Yeah I'm gonna run some wire through it, but it can wait for another day
