I have a 1990 325is m50b25tu swapped, i use the car primarily for a weekend drift car, and the occasional cruise. I had noticed once i first started getting good at drifting if i hang a corner too long in one direction, or large donuts the car runs out of fuel, the gas light will come on with a half tank in the car while its sideways and then sputter, loss of power, and eventually loss of the actual slide, which takes away alot of fun, and occasionally makes me look like an idiot when i lose momentum because im running out of fuel. do any of you guys run alternative pump/tank setups that may help me with this issue? i dont really want to go with a fuel cell in the trunk although i may end up going that route if there are no other known fixes for this on the e30. what do you guys think?

I don't think this is normal. could be a number of things - bad pump, rust in tank, old filter, blocked fuel return, blocked fuel feed from drivers side of tank, etc.Comment

If you discover it is starvation, any sort of in line collection/surge tank should fix it. I use a 1/2 gallon alluminum surge tank on my e24 race car.90 325i DD/Track

is this a part that i already have in my car somewhere that you think is failing? or are you suggesting adding this into my current system as an upgrade?http://www.gutenparts.com/partners/g...lator-e30.html
Edit:
That's for cars with two pumps, not sure if it will work with one.sigpicFellow e30 enthusiast

It never happens, I can drive the car wide open on the highway without a sputter, its only when im sideways in a right turn for an extended period of time or right donuts, i have one of the cars with a "saddle tank" i believe its like a hump over the driveshaftsigpicFellow e30 enthusiast

If this happens with a half tank, I'm inclined to suspect that the siphon in the tank isn't working properly. That could be a problem with the siphon or as a result of a worn pump that isn't producing the fuel flow that it should. The first thing I'd do would be to replace the pump with a new OE part. If that fails to cure the problem and you still see the fuel light come on, there is a problem with the siphon and I'd replace the tank.
It is possible to fit the tank with dual pumps which will eliminate starvation issues (see http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=157887), but that more for allowing the tank to go well below 1/4 full. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Thanks, im going to start with an upgraded fuel pump since i have boost in my future somewhere and take it back to the track and see what happens :)If this happens with a half tank, I'm inclined to suspect that the siphon in the tank isn't working properly.
