    3.5 rev limit in a 318is?!?!?!?

Ok well this is really weird. My rev's won't go above 3.5k?!?!?! it fells like its hitting a rev limiter but I have a cheapy ebay chip that puts the limit at 7k. I am getting the impression that it may be like the fuel pump or something? what do you guys think? it was fine yesterday.

I don't have the stock one...it was in there when I bought the car

I think its fuel related though b/c first thing this morning it stopped at like 4.5, then 4, then 3.5, and now even 3.25 sometimes!! Thats making me think I am like loosing fuel pressure or something...BTW I have 3/4 tank of gas

this may seem like kind of a stupid question, but are you sure youre flooring it? sometimes with these gas pedals, what feels like the floor works out to be about half way down. if youre sure the pedal's to the metal (or carpet, i guess), it could be the afm, though its odd that the rev limit would change. im with golde30, ditch the ebay chip and see what happens.

yeah I may try a stock chip but why would the rev limit change? I have a grinding/hissing sound from the rear right of my car. I wans't sure if it was the bearing or fuel pump. Could it also have something to do w/ the ecu? or just the chip?

Yeah I was flooring it. pedal to the carpet ;) 4bangers need their rev's in the mountains :(

Hissing from the rear of the car? Well the fuel pump IS on the right rear.........

I had a cat go bad once, the element would move to the rear of the canister with pressure and choke the whole car down.........ran fine till I went to 2nd gear. And it would make a funny sound. Try rattling the cat (when it's cold of course) and see if you hear anything. Probably not it, but it won't hurt anything to try.

umm....my cat was "fixed" a few days after ownage. I welded a pipe through the cat. maybe my resonator? below 3k the car is perfectly normal.

Have you checked your afm? If the butterfly flap inside is sticking you wouldn't get as much air as is necessary.............
