Ok I just changed the fuel filter and I am pretty sure the old one was original. The car seems happier w/ it but and it will go to 4.5k now. It is also ideling a little smoother now also. Does it sound like the injectors may be part of the prob or do you still think its something w/ ignition?

I had the same problem with my first e30. I had a redline at like 4k. Try staying on the gas when the fuel cuts out. The solution to mine was the fuel filter so when it seemed like it redlined it was really just not getting enough fuel. So if i floored it past the cutoff it would actually keep accelerating but very slowly.(and rough)
I know you just replaced the fuel filter so i guess its not that, but i would think it has something to do with fuel not getting into the block fast enough. (something is clogged)
BTW, where is the fuel filter located on the 318's?

the fuel filter is below and behind the drivers door like on a 325is. its really easy to get to. BTW I got to 5.5k today...maybe all the way back up tommorro!?!?...we'll see. I am also getting the 24# injectors...that should help it get more gas ;)

Why are you getting bigger injectors when you can only get to 5k rpm with STOCK injectors? Something is fucked up. Why would you be "upgrading" something when obviously something doesnt work right when it should? If the bigger injectors fix the problem, your's were probably clogged and really, it would just be a band-aid for the problem and most likely, the stock ECU won't be able to adapt to the 24# ones very well if at all. So be prepared for a fucked up A/F ratio.

:tsk: yeah ok? the problem is going away fast after I changed the fuel filter that has prob NEVER been changed. You are such a fool...I mean tool. If you aren't trying to help then don't respond to a thread!!! Everyone else has been more than kind and helpfull. Your car is the one that needs a band-aid...a BIG one. The injectors are obviously clogging up and thats why I am running seafoam through the gas to help clean everything up before I put in the new injectors. BTW if the ECU can't handle big injectors w/out like MS then how do m20 people run HUGE injectors w/ a FMU on their turbo systems?!?!?! Hmmm...well thats what I am doing but to a m42. The 24# is actually a perfect size for a m42 runin about 8-9psi w/ a fmu. Sooo don't respond if you don't know what you are talking about. Go home to mommy to get some more animal crackers

lol animal crackers on the way. And yes, my car needs fixed. It has an appointment to get fixed March 6th. Maybe you should go cry to mommy about this one. People with turbo systems dont usually run on the STOCK chip in the computer. Word on the street is that the e30 computers dont adapt very well. If I am wrong, please get your gun out and shoot me. Of course I dont know what I am talking about. I am a total fool...I mean tool.

In all seriousness... do you know what the fuel pressure is? Do you know that all 4 cylinders have spark? Like other people have said, its not the best thing for YOU to just throw parts at the car and hope the problem goes away. It will save you money and time in the long run when you diagnose a problem correctly.

I'm not going to shoot you but I am planing on geting a markD chip made...the stock chip was put back in to make sure that it was not the reason of my car not reving. BUT the stock chip is more than capable of runin 24#ers...the stock is somewhere around 17ish. tons of people w/ m20 that have 14ish#ers go to #24ers w/ a stock chip no prob. A stock chip is better than a chip that is not SPECIFICALLY designed for your turbo application. W/ a standard chip you WILL mess up your engine boosting it. just stop posting...you are making yourself look more like a tard. I know you are not completely ingorant about cars but you obviously don't know too much about boosting. Thats ok...you have to learn. But geeze grow up and read something.

That makes zero sense. A stock chip wont be specifically designed for your turbo application but it will be better than a different chip not designed for it?

yeah lots of people have said tons of thing that it could be...and I appreciate that and check it out. It was not the chip, I cleaned the AFM TB and IM, I checked the wires for arc, I replaced the worn out injectors, I have checked all the leads...The ONLY one that has made a difference is the fuel. Sooooo I am fixing that stuff. AND I need 24#ers anyway for my turbo app anyway so if its not them then I am not out anything since I need them anyway. If the stock ones are fine when I pull them then I will put them back in till the turbo goes on.

The point I was originally making was that with stock injectors, your car should rev past 5k without a problem. If they are clogged, that could definitely give you a problem with revving that high. If you are going to switch to 24# ones later anyways for a turbo, go for it. I honestly dont know what this arguement is about. I didnt think my first post was even that rude. But what do I know... I'm a tard who likes animal crackers.

yep...standard off the shelf chips (not stock ones) mess w/ things like advancing spark and stuff. Go to e30 tech if you need some schoolin on turbo systems. YOU ARE NOT HELPING W/ ANYTHING SO STOP POSTING IN MY THREAD!!!!
