    Gas tank fueling woes

Whenever I go to pump gas in the e30, the lever on the gas pump won't hold pressure and releases/stops.

It's the same action that happens when the gas pump recognizes that the tank is full, but on the e30 happens after 10seconds regardless of how full/empty the tank is.

    How do I fix this?

    Same problem here

I think gas stations just hate out cars
Most pumps have 2 knotches on the lever that holds the auto fueling mechanism. I find that putting the pump to the second setting (60% pressed), rather than the first setting (90% pressed) fixes this, but it'll take you an extra minute or two to fill

I find that if you fuck with it for ten minutes then it usually works. Though, it depends on the station.

Side note, I had a Mercedes that did the same thing. They replaced the fuel filler neck under warranty and that solved my issue...

Could be that one of your fuel lines is pinched, not allowing the fuel to flow fast enough. I had the same problem, and that was the cause. The gas was flowing into the tank faster than the line could move it into the tank, which was causing the pump to think the tank was full, even though it wasn't.

Same problem here, but not my E30. It's annoying as fuck, and even worse here since we can't pump our own gas.

          In for solution.

The nozzle shutoff is reading back pressure and some of them are set to be too sensitive so it happens to me now and then. I just pull the nozzle out 1/2" so there is more "breathing room" around the splash shield which reduces the back pressure and solves the problem

But why just in my e30?
My dd car can accept a thorough pumping till the brim, as does the ford focus beater...all on the same gas pumps, regardless of gas pumps.

On the e30 it's a few seconds of 40% or less pumpage and it stops.

I literally need to listen to hear how full the tank is getting before it spews gasoline all over my shoes.

It's not *that* big of a problem, more of an annoyance to me.

Every car has different plumbing....a sharper bend or longer run. There is also a vent pipe that taps in the the filler neck that runs to the plastic vaper reservoir above the right rear fender liner. From there a tube runs to the charcoal canister next to your brake fluid reservoir.

Now if that spider laid eggs in the opening of the plastic tank your filler pipe won't vent as intended and that will cause more back pressure thn your Ford :)

I had the same problem. I replaced that line and it works great now. I also heard someone say to turn the pump upside down, but I don't know how well that works.
