    Asc+t

I'm not quite sure which subforum this belongs in, so I apologize in advance if there was some better place to post.

Anyone tried retrofitting ASC+T into an e30? I'm tired of slowing down in the rain...

I know that 'anything' is possible if you throw enough money at it, but I'd like to know what kinda money we talkin about.

Can't see how you could make it work without swapping over tons of control units and speed sensors from an e34 or e36.

You would be much better off with an aftermarket traction control system, like Racelogic. Then again, I wouldn't even think of spending the money on traction control unless I had uncontrollable wheelspin at highway speeds in the dry.

-Eh, you already have ABS, so trac. is just a matter of wiring and comuter work. Maybe rig you ABS modual to dab the brakes when need be?

-Anyone know it e30 ABS is one chanal, two chanal, or four-chanal? (<-I know, I spelled "chanal" wrong...)

All traction control does is cut the throttle when it detects wheel slip. It will slow you down just as much as you slow yourself down in the rain. You need to slow down in the rain anyways so why spend the money getting traction control in a 15 year old car?

a better and cheaper way would be to learn how to drive your car. spend money on Autox's and DE's instead of a "hold my hand so I don't screw up" mod. you'll be a much better driver and will be safer than having no clue with traction control to take care of your mistakes.

and if you get a chance to autox in the rain, do it! it's a very safe place to learn your limits in the wet, so you'll have an idea of how much to back off when it's raining.

See the pedal on the far right? That's BMW's analog traction control from the 80's. Depressing it further down reduces its effectiveness. If you ease up on it, you regain traction.

Might want to try practicing that in traction-limited environments.

E30 ABS is 3 channel. ASCT needs a 4 channel system. You'd have to redo all the plumbing for the rear brakes, use an E36 ABS pump and control unit, some sort of full range throttle position sensor, and god knows what other tiny details are lurking. Just learn to drive.

-What are the three channels? Left front, right front, and rears?

Correct. e30 ABS is not capable of modulating the rear brakes independantly. Both or not at all.

                      sooo

                      once again

                      Racelogic

                      1400 with launch control,
                      1200 without

It'll probably be cheaper, and a hell of a lot easier.

To all those who automatically assumed I couldn't drive, allow me to quell your fears. I race (on a track) on a regular basis, I have been for the last 6 years. So 'driving ability' is not an issue here.

I live in a country where a lot of roads are made as if they were an afterthought, with sudden dips and rough-spots in the middle of the freeways, which makes driving in the rain more dangerous than usual. In short, asc would only be an emergency measure of sorts if I encounter sudden irregularities in the road.

Thx to those of you who provided USEFUL answers. (Adam, Jordan, Addissimo, et al)
