    ECU? Why you do this?

    Hey guys.

Have a bit of a strange problem with my 86 325i (yes it's real, it's been imported from the UK) which I am fairly sure is the ECU. It runs euro Motronic 1.0 (no cat, no o2 sensor, no crank trigger wheel etc) so finding much info is pretty hard, as it's pretty rare.

Basically what happens is it drives fine for a while (a few days to a week) and then I will start to notice it occasionally hesitating at ~5000 RPM. After the first time I notice it, it then gets progressively more frequent, and hesitates at lower RPMS. If I keep driving it it will continue getting worse, to the point that it is nearly impossible to drive, and I have to pull over on the side of the road to reset the ecu. If I disconnect the battery and reset the ECU though, it is fine again for maybe a week and then starts the same thing over again.

I plan on putting it on MS soon, so if that will fix it (assuming it is the ECU at fault) it's not a big deal, is easy enough to live with until then. I'm just wondering why it's doing this and if anyone else has experienced anything similar?

i have a similair issue.. car runs idles like crap after its "learned" for a while. but start it up after pulling the cable off and it runs great!! any ideas?? (super eta turned "i" w greentop 17lb injectors) the 173 ecu is the big culprit but the old 153 idles better long term..
    Now with 2.7i power!!!

i have motronic 1.0, 153ecu (88 327 "supereta" w i conversion) and have used the motronic 1.1, 173 ecu and it was way more problematic than the 153. thats background info to help figure "why it runs good when first connected and poorl idle after its been run for a few days???"

        thanks

Umm. Who replies like that? My link was referred to the OP. He could go from motronic 1.0 to 1.3 in very few steps, I only said this because he commented on a few things listed in doing this swap.

          "thanks"

            153 is 1.1. 173 is 1.3 sounds like a bad o2 to me

              1.0 doesn't have an o2 sensor...

I replaced the fuel pump and it seems to have fixed my problems. The improvement after unplugging of the battery must have been a coincidence/my mind.

Not going to bother swapping in more motronic, i have ms2 going in in the very near future
