Help with gas smell above half tank?

Whenever my tank is filled or above half tank I can smell gas outside of teh car when I stand next to the gas cap with everything closed.

Anyone ever have this problem? Any idea which hose could be cracked and how to access it?

I had that same problem, t'was rusty fuel tank.

I'd drop the tank and see what's up. You could also check the seals on top of the tank by lifting the rear seat and opening the access ports.

Pull your passenger side wheel, and pull the cover that's behind it- the one that
covers up all the vapor lines. There's a metal 'Y' back there that rusts out in the
main air return line from the tank.

When that's not it, check those lines- they often harden and crack.

When that's not it, check the filler neck itself for rust...

...and then yeah, look at the tank. And the lines that attach to it. Depending on your
vintage, there are lines that enter/leave at about half- full...
