    Wonky Gas Gauge & Backlighting

So my gas gauge is super wonky. It has been for some time actually. About 3 months ago I pulled the cluster to check things. When I did that, I cleaned all of the solder joints on the main cluster board and reflowed them. The ground nuts on the gas gauge and temp gauge were also cleaned and tightened.

When I put it back, the gas gauge was no better. It still looks like it has a bad connection sometimes (the needle will randomly jump around every now and then) and tapping on the cluster will make the gas gauge needle move around. Hard right and hard left turns also make it move, although I think that's more related to the level sender responding to the gas moving around.

If the car has been sitting for a while, when I turn on the headlights the entire left side of the cluster won't have any backlighting. A smack on the dashboard always fixes that, but this only started after I took it out and cleaned stuff. The backlight on the left side is also noticeably dimmer than the backlight on the right. Maybe i just need a new bulb, I don't know.

So, as far as the gas gauge goes, do they just die after a while, or is there something else that I missed?

The SI board looked like it was in OK condition. Not all of the LEDs light up consistently (again, tapping on the cluster can make them intermittently turn on or off). Not sure what's up with that. Haven't replaced the batteries either.

My temp gauge does this but as soon as I tap on the cluster it stays were its supposed to be.

Might want to consider cleaning your fuel level sender in the gas tank. You probably just need new bulbs for the main illumination.
