Tighten the 7mm nuts behind each gauge, start there.

What Greg said. Also check your ground points on the board within your gauge. Mine were worn down, a bit of solder on each one and they work perfectly.

      Refer to this

For your fan, could be the switch or a bunch of other things.

I can vouch for this. I just did mine today and it worked. Both my Gas and Coolant Gauge now are stable and accurate.

My gas gauge always drops down way too fast and sits on empty while the OBC (when i press 1 and 1000) shows i still have 15 litres or so left... could that be a 7mm nut issue, or is either the gauge or the sensor shot?

is the latch jammed or locked?

                  Found this on bimmerfest:
"First of all you will need a new glovebox lock because its broken. That's why it won't open. Second, you will need a couple of long and narrow blade screwdrivers and 10 mm socket and/or wrench. You have to get down under the glovebox and find the three (3) nuts that hold the back hinge in place. They might be hidden under carpet and/or insulation but they are there! After you release them, the glovebox won't open but will move around some allowing you to reach with the screwdrivers and depress the "teeth" of the lock that engage in the dash metal bracket. Some people also remove the bolts that hold this bracket but I never did it this way. Watch out for the glovebox once it releases because is going down! Install your new (or used "new to you" latch), reattach the three nuts on the back (don't tighten them as you WILL need to move it around to get it to close prefectly again!) and adjust as required, tighten and enjoy!"

alternatively you could break the latch handle off and try and use a flathead to move the metal latch itself. latch handles are pretty easy to come by in the classified section it seems!
