    Map light LED?

Found a bunch of threads had this question asked or touched upon through searching r3v as well as google which lead me to several s14 and e30tech threads but none with a solid conclusion. Has anyone had any luck with this and if so know what bulb is needed to pull this off?

From what I found, the maplights use the light emitted through the side of the bulb which makes the LED solution tricky since they're more or less directional

I'm sure I can pull something like this off, although I have never done it. I stock and work with SMT (Surface Mount Technology) LED's that are about 3mm wide, 1mm thick. Very tiny, super bright. I can probably integrate 2 to 4 per lens for a super bright output.

Sweet! Do you know how much something like that would cost?

is there a standard LED replacement bulb that can simply swap out with the stock one? those will still be $20 or so even if they exist.

I hate to reply without more info but, I know a local dude here in Cali, who replaced just the bulbs in the mirror and looked nice and bright.

I'll see if I can get a hold of him within the next few days, then report back.

From what I understand, and this is a best guess. But those bulbs are probably 12 v incandescent. A LED replacement will require a built in resistor (12V led minimum) However and SMT LED matrix will be much brighter.

Are you just looking for an LED bulb replacement for your dome lights? They are available on ebay for pretty cheap.

My dome lights are already LEDs. AS are every other trim light I have. The maplight is the only filament bulb left in my interior which is why I was looking for an LED solution for them
