    ECU swap

I have an 87 325is and I'm looking to buy a Jim c chip but when I checked the ecu number I found 0 261 200 150 (the same ecu found in e32). I see people are selling e30 173 ecu's. Should I get the e30 ecu and chip that? If so, what does an ecu swap need?

That's an ecu for an M30...

If you have an M20... Throw in a 173. The 150 is the same as the 153 with a different tune, so you could use a 153 chip if you wanted. BUT! If you have an M30, don't change the ecu.

I should have specified. I do have a m20. So I'm probably best off going for the 153?

For the cost difference get a 173. actually, all motronic 1.3 ECUs are basically the same. you could also get a 380, 525, etc.

524/525 have the top speed limiter, if that matters (126mph)
