    Central Locking Problems...

My central locking system has had some intermittent problems a few years back, but they always seemed to correct themselves. I think the majority of them were the unit overheating and needing to cool down, but I dunno, it's been a while.

So anyway, for the past week or two my driver's side lock has been hard to unlock from double lock. I'd been spraying the lock with WD-40 to try to get it to loosen up, but lastnight I locked the door in double lock and when I turned the key back the system stayed locked up. I can manually get in the driver's side but I have to turn the key and pull the handle to open the passenger's side. Trunk works fine, but it doesn't activate the other locks. Gas filler door is locked.

What I'm wondering is does this sound like my driver door's actuator crapped out on me or does it lean towards being the central unit?
I retired my E30 for now...

Try this. My drivers side door lock is doing the same thing, but I haven't gotten around to doing this yet. Doesn't hurt to get upclose and inspect it to really see whats goin on.

Try single locking the drivers door and then unlock the car using the trunk lock. If the drivers door unlocks, then the actuator is good and the problem may just be a worn out lock assembly in the drivers door. You can purchase a rebuild kit for the door locks from BMW.

        Try this first:

Open the drivers door and locate the doorjamb connector, pull it and clean out the contacts. You may even have to replace badly corroded pins. Also check the passenger side. See if this remedies some of the problems. The trunk should unlock everything else...if they don't then their not getting the signal to unlock. It's a PITA to troubleshoot but just think everything over logically. I ended up changing a door actuator and some doorjamb pins to get my central locking working.

do you need oem keys to unlock and lock the doors? and if so, can you get replacement oem keys from BMW with the key code?

you should be using graphite in the door locks. wd-40 is not a lubricant, it's a rust preventer (water displacement, 40th formula)
