Anybody running clutch pedals without assisting spring?

    This little fella:

Long story short, I reinstalled manual assembly few weeks ago, mounted this guy properly to the 'hook'. It slipped on the second test drive and broke small nipple from MC that runs brake fluid.

    Not happy.

Pedal seems okay without it and I have been running without it before. Why use it?

It's an over center spring I believe in some case if the clutch is pushed too far the pedal can get stuck to the floor as the way it pivots can prevent it from coming back but I'm pretty sure it's impossible as I just worked on a z3 the other day and it was completely missing and I didn't even realize it till I took the kick panel off haha

out of the 3 e30s i have had, all had this spring fall out. never replaced it. never had a problem without it. i think the clutch pedal just sat a few mms lower than the brake pedal

Good to hear. So pissed about brake fluid all over my carpet.

Now waiting for that stupid plastic nipple to come.

I've run a couple cars that were manual swapped with no spring and had zero issues.

I did a manual swap in my coupe a few months ago and never took the time to put that spring in. No issues so far, the pedal is just slightly easier to push than on my vert.

I have two e30s, both without the spring. I didn't know there should have been one in the first e30 until I was researching for the manual swap I did on the second one.

see above. not all E30s came with them. Non airbag cars have them, airbag cars don't.

But clutch assembly is pretty much the same right? From what I'm seeing anyways.

This spring is such a shitty design, nothing holding it but the weight and it's right next to plastic nipple that carries clutch fluid.

more or less. I believe i have the clutch/brake assembly from an 87is in my 91i. but it could have been from a junkyard late model 318is...
