rear main seal bad. advice. instrument cluster too

shop is quoting 534 for the work. 36.39 for the part and 5 hours labor. let me know if that is fair and also while this is being done is there anything else I should have them take care of? just got this E30 as a gift from a family member and so far I have about $2500 into it. fair if it is going to be a road warrior soon ;)

shop did initial work over the past month or so and then I drove it home yesterday and once it was in the driveway there went the oil all over the place...

oh, and one more thing to add here. instrument cluster needs replacement. where is the best place to purchase a rebuilt/reliable one and how much do those run?

    thanks

clutch, pressure plate, maybe pilot bearing while you're in there.

guibo since the transmission is going to be down. shifter refresh if it feels ratty.

how much to just buy a refurbed unit? and does that include the SI board too? I am having issues with both. the SI board is staying lit/flickering when the car is off

Shoot me a PM or email at BavRest@gmail.com and I will provide you a quote. Options are buying a fully refurbished cluster from us or send us your parts to be refurbished. Yes, SI board is most important part of cluster so refurbishment concentrates on SI board most.

Thats not out of range to do a rear seal. However, they dont usually just "blow" so Im asking myself why, if theyve been working on the car recently, this just came up.

As to what else..if its a manual, then absolutely clutch, pressure plate. TOB, pivot pin and if needed reface the flywheel & replace the clutch hydraulics. Almost zero extra labor for these when doing the RMS
Seat Shocks....I have passed the baton to John Christy from Ninestitch. Email John or Garrett at ninestitch1@gmail.com

well I guess I should give a little better background. car has been sitting for almost two years. had it shipped to me where I live and it was in the shop for a month or so. when I picked it up it had been gone through with a bunch of items but not driven around that much. so when I picked it up I drove it for about 10-15 minutes, got gas and came home and parked it in the driveway. when I came back out 30 minutes later that is when I see the oil ALL over the driveway. maybe that would make more sense if the seal was already bad?

I'd get a couple of cans of engine degreaser, some simple green, a scraper and parts brush and clean the heck out of it. Then add some tracing dye and source your leak before paying anyone to replace anything.

It's already at the shop ;) but they are cool people so I will confirm that they actually traced the leak
