Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure that part number 2 in that diagram is a trans mount.
I'm no e30 expert, so I can't speak for every model ever made, but there are no drivetrain mounts (as far as I know) between the engine mounts and the trans mount. The only bushings someone could misconstrue as drivetrain mounts/bushings and are right next to the bellhousing are the control arm bushings.
Have a friend get in the passenger seat and take a video so we can hear the noise.
clunking underneath by the shaft hump.

not the trans mounts, there fine. he said it's by the bell housing where the trans is connected.Last edited by long tall eta; 07-27-2014, 03:34 PM.Leave a comment:

Levent was probably talking about the trans mounts. They are like miniature motor mounts.

yes, i do have a rad. lol. but i was told to look at the rad and inspect for evidence of damage. the sound is not a random one, what ever it is, it is with the revolution of either the wheels (which i doubt cause it seems to be in the middle of the car) or the drive shaft. she accelerates strong and cruises w/o any noise or vibration. only on braking does the problem occur.Leave a comment:

Could be a few different things, definitely inspect before you buy parts.
Also, the only rubber bits next to the bellhousing I can think of are the control arm bushings, that wouldn't make the drivetrain slide forward though (do you still have a radiator? lol)Leave a comment:

clunking underneath by the shaft hump.
guys, the other day i had to mash the brakes due to an ass hole in front of me. from then on, every time i use the brakes, i have a clunking under the car by the hump on the pass side. brakes are good. the clunk only happens when i hit the brakes. levent says it is probably a broken rubber mount by the bell housing that is letting the drive train slide forward. i loaned out my jack and stands for a few days so i can't get under there. does any one have a pic of said part/mount/brace?Tags: None
