Ideas for new vapor barriers in doors?

When I bought my car it was missing the plastic film that is adhered to the inside of the door behind the door cards. I've always just referred to them as vapor barriers because that's their purpose and I want to get something back in place.

For my VWs, I've always used clear plastic sheet from the hardware store and very strong carpet tape (double sided) to replicate what the factory had.

I'm curious to see if anyone here has any clever ideas in this department. It would be great to find a solution that still seals well but can be removed without damaging the plastic film. I wonder what adhesive BMW used?

I couldn't turn up anything in the search except that BMW may sell this plastic in roll form. Nothing about the adhesive.

    Thanks.

I use generic spray can "Spray Adhesive" from WalMart. NOT the supposedly "high quality" 3M crap, nor the insane glue we use on subwoofer boxes and amp racks, but the el-cheap-o crafts store junk. Everyone should have that shit in their arsenal at all times. Its awesome for that particular job as it comes off when needed and stays put otherwise. It works exactly how a vapor barrier glue should, just perfect.

Spray the metal where you want it to stick, spray the plastic to match the metal, wait about 2 minutes to let it dry and smoothly stick it on.

I use it to hold gaskets in place as well, its slick as hell. Ever do a Chevy diff? Lying on your back, the stupid gasket slipping while trying to start a bolt? Fuck that, take 20 seconds to spray the gasket and the cover, stick it on and it is much easier, works awesome.

Spray adhesive works the best you can also use rtv in a pinch. I've also had some luck with just heating the barrier back up with a heat gun and sticking it back on some times.

But don't try any of that on a newer bmw, I think e46 or e90 the vapor barrier is an integral part to the door sealing and when you have a leak in the vapor barrier it leaks water in that door...

Get a roll carpet shield, self adhesive roll of plastic from Lowes or HD. Works perfect and no adhesive to mess with.
