    Clutch in, engine revs? Stumped

So recently I let my brake fluid get a bit low. No big deal, just ran to autozone and filled it up again. It wasnt empty, but below the minimum line. Used DOT4 fluid, (as it says on the resevoir) and filled it up. I turned the car on and whenever I put the clutch in the car revs super quickly sometimes to redline. This doesnt happen everytime the clutch is in, maybe half the time. Do i just need to bleed the system? I am stumped

Mine did this. The floor mat was binding on the accelerator.

Yeah, the clutch and accelerator have no physical connection so something else is interfering.

Any other ideas guys? Something binding on the accelerator is unlikely since it only happens when the clutch is pushed in. Also seems like it only happens when the car is moving, not stationary. The rpms only jump when the clutch is in.

My best advice would be to get your head down there, press the clutch with your hand, and look around.

Like someone else said the clutch system has no affect on the rpm. Something has got to be pushing the throttle when you push the clutch down.

One thing that just occurred to me: Do you have floormats? The driver's floormat could have slid forward, pushing slightly on the accelerator. You may not notice it as much when you're driving, but when you disengage the clutch that may be raising the rpm.

                  It's BMW's downshift revmatch feature.
