Windshield seal/locking strip question

I have a 9/86 build date 325e. Can I use the early windshield seal (51311913887) with the late black locking strip (51311968445) ? Would like to hear from someone that actually did this. Trying to eliminate all the chrome trim. Thanks

Having both side by side, they're the same width and shape where they insert into the seal...

I did this swap and besides looking better, the black ones are Epdm and will not fade, crack, discolor or crap on your carpets.
