Huge fuel leak when pulling G

    Hello internet. On the weekend I got a nice clean 1990 E30 325i sedan with 138,000km :D

All was going good till i decided its time to drift it. I turned around to see my buddy sniffing a decent sized splash of fuel on the ground.

It looked like it had dripped down the filler neck just behind the passenger rear tire, but the top of the filler neck was completely dry. I tried to take a look at it when i got home but all the fuel had obviously evaporated at that point. my suspicion is its the plastic expansion tank in the fender. it also smells pretty bad of fuel around the filler cap.

Id just like to know if any one else has had this issue or if any one can think of another place it could possibly be leaking from. It was a decent amount of fuel that came out and it only does when i pull a lot of G.

Thanks! first BMW so I dont know much at all about these cars yet.

    **[SOLVED]** thanks guys!

possibly you have either a hole in your tank somwhere or in the filler neck hose.

The access panel on the top of the tank where the fuel pump is is known to leak. Pull the rear seat and take a look. Any gas smell inside the car?

It doesn't smell at all in the car or in the trunk and the filler neck looks perfectly fine im gonna take the rear tire + fender off on the weekend to get a better look

blew a rear strut mount on the driver side so i gotta take care of that first :P only 3 days in so far lol.

remove your rear seat (bottom part) and check to assure the fuel pump panels are sealed off properly.

mine wasn't and did exactly as yours described.

If you don't find it there, pull the right rear wheel and pull off the cover that goes from the filler down towards the back seat.
The vapor return hoses are in there, and there is a metal 'Y' pipe that often rusts out
from all the crap that accumulates behind the cover.

              That can do it.

Took the wheel off the other day and found it was that little Y fitting it had rusted apart completely with no sign of it left lol. just abit of metal inside each line.

I was wondering for a temporary fix would it be ok to plug the lines? I assume it helps vent when your filling the tank? I looked around hardware stores and no one sells a T fitting that goes from 3/4 to a size that small so ill probably have to order one. thanks for the link barbierij!

This is what happened to me when I topped it right off at the fuel station. Wasn't fun.
