Well now you can compare the old keys to the new key profile to find out why they aren't working anymore. It could be a simple fix.

True. Though I would venture to guess they were cut "too much" sinch they were copies of an older worn key. I could see the immediate difference while I was rebuilding the locks. When inserting the original key, the tumblers were more or less inline/flat, or they had a little "play" so when the key was turned they would align. When I inserted the copies of the original worn key, the tumblers were slightly out of alignment, and wouldn't budge.

Though, the copies of the old key do start the car which makes sense as the ignition lock/cylinder is not new and probably just as worn out as the locks were.

I'll post back when I get the new vin matched key.

Finally picked it up. I HATE THE DAMN STEALERSHIP

:hitler: :hitler: :hitler: :hitler: :hitler: :hitler: :hitler: :hitler:

They were supposed to call me when it came in; they didn't. And I was very busy with work and a myriad of other things and forgot about it. Then I remembered two months later.....

Anyway picked it up today. It's not the lighted key like I ordered and specifically pointed to on the computer with the parts guy. They gave me the tiny useless "valet key" that doesn't even have a handle on it. Useless. I am pissed off.

I am going to call tomorrow and they are going to get an earful. This is absolutely ridiculous.

That's a good deal. I might've done that if I had known early on. But I kinda wanted to keep the ignition key matching the doors.

Anyway. I called the dealer and told them they gave me the wrong key. Further I was told that the "lighted" key is NLA. I told them I can buy a brand new one oem bmw for $20; then it was clarified that the lighted key is NLA as a vin cut key aka their key cutter doesn't supply those anymore (but you can still buy them as blanks)... which still didn't explain why I was given the choice and told the lighted key was available in the first place. It really really really pisses me off that they charge me for a lighted key and then turn around and hand me that B***S*** key instead. So, the dealer told me to bring in the key they gave me and they will make a new non-lighted key. I still think that's a load of crap I have to drive all over the place to fix this absurd mistake.

I ordered a blank lighted key and I'll have it cut at a locksmith to copy the new key, and then I'll return the new key.

They say that...but I just ordered 2 cut lighted masters a few months ago. I think the confusion is you can buy the key separate without the push button part and that has a different part number than if you buy the complete key with the push button. Here's the part number I used for complete cut lighted key...51 21 1 900 876

Hmm. I'll give them that number at the dealer... though it showed NLA on ecs when I just searched it, but doesn't show NLA on realoem. The guy did specifically say the lighted coded key was NLA but the lighted blank wasn't. But who knows with the dealer...

Worst case, I'll probably just shove that key they gave me up someones nose :hitler: this is stupid

FWIW, most of the guys working the parts counters at dealerships are fucking worthless. you have to come in with a part number to get something from them.

first time i tried getting a lock rebuild kit for my drivers' side door, the guy working the counter told me that "lock rebuild kits don't exist". would not budge on his opinion. had to come back with a part number to get the kit... wouldn't even apologize for refusing to look it up earlier.

in hindsight, had i known they would've been massive c unts, i should've just ordered the kit online. don't even know why i went back the second time. fuck the BMW dealership

also why the hell is waffleswaffleswaffleswaffles censored?

Don't even get me started. I never go to the dealership for parts. BMA is on the way to work so I just usually pick up and order there. But in the rare occasion I HAVE to go... This is the result.

A four year old with a smartphone and Google would probably be more help behind that counter.

Otherwise, I never EVER order parts from the STEALership
