Transmission tunnel insulation - Better modern replacement?

The trans tunnel insulation on my E30 is in rough shape.

Any suggestions for a modern material that is better at noise reduction and keeping the heat out of the car?

See Summit Racing or Port City Racing web sites. There is peel and stick race car stuff you can use. I think it adds about 50 hp.

I'd think it's better to keep the heat out of the metal as BMW designed.

I use roll-on (or you can you spray-on) rubber undercoating. I bought a gallon can a while back.

Sorry, I forgot the original question and thought that you meant sound. It has some heat-isolation properties simply based on additional mass and thickness but it isn't reflective of heat like an aluminized sheet product would be.

The stuff i posted above does reflect heat but goes on the inside.

if you end up replacing it, post some pics on process. Looks like alot of lines have to be undone in the process

Fyi peel n stick is asphalt based and is not recommended for enclosed spaces such as a car interior with windows since it gasses off. Id check its flammability specs if installing it near intense heat....like a red hot exhaust.

It's pricey, but I absolutely trust this brand. I have used some of their other products and they are absolutely top notch. Check the specs: self adhesive designed to be placed directly adjacent to screaming hot parts up to 800º F.
